Back in July when our family had a reunion in New Mexico, I started talking about how I had become a fan of sushi. My Uncle Gary told me about this great product that made making sushi rolls super simple. I was totally interested but completely forgot about it by the time I got back to Florida. I think that moving at the end of July had something to do with that. Well, to my happy surprise, a couple of weeks later a package arrived at our door from Gary and Amy. They had sent us the International Sushi Maker Plus. Yay! Not only was I pumped that I would be able to make my own sushi, I felt loved by my favorite uncle (He makes us call him that.) Along with the sushi maker, Gary made a video of himself demonstrating how to use it. That was a bonus!
Anyway, I have put off making the sushi because I was just a little intimidated by it. I tend to do that...ignore things that I'm intimidated by. :) Well, today Isaac begged me to make him some sushi. We ran to the store and we got after it. And I think it might be easier than making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I'm pretty sure I made 5 rolls in about 10 minutes. (Yes, we ate them all.)
Thanks, Gary and Amy! We are really going to enjoy this!

I watched as I sushied.

all put together and ready to be cut...

Oooh, that looks good!

I think Josiah ate about 4 pieces. He's such a picky eater that I can't believe he kept eating it.

This guy is a sushi lover.

And I think she just might be, too.
Cute Story:
I watched the video before I went to the store so that I'd know what ingredients I'd need. As we were driving, I overheard Josiah saying, "Okay, now we are just going to put the seaweed right here. Now spread some salt in here. Good job. Now pour some salt on that. Okay..." I'm pretty sure his sushi would have had about 1 cup of salt in it.
Next Cute Story:
As I was making the sushi, Isaac told me what to do. He said, "Make sure you don't press down too hard." And then when I pushed the sushi out onto the plate he said, "Voila!" just like Gary.

Excellent!!! I'm impressed, Amy, and proud to be prominently featured in one of your blogs!!
See? I told you it was easy!!
Love you.
Your favorite uncle,
Gary
WOW!! An international chef is in the house. I'm glad the kids liked it. Did Jay eat any?
Dear Favorite Uncle- As always, you were right. And maybe you can come visit me and I'll feature you again. :)
Love-
Your Favorite Niece
Jean- I think you know Jay very well. haha No, he didn't try it. But he's proud that I made it. On our dates he's always nice and takes me to the Sushi Cafe and orders chicken and noodles.
Remember how we used to always eat at Thai Kitchen? Yum...I loved that restaurant.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE I so want that kit. WANT IT and I would love the video! HA!! :) I love the pics Amy and I love that you are a sushi lover. YAY.
Those boys are hysterical: Monkey see, monkey do! (Hee-hee, Gary!!) Maybe Gary can sell the video to all your friends.
And your kids are ahead of me in the sushi curve---haven't had it yet! But I did get to watch the video on the last Florida trip, Gary!
Yumm! What did you put in your Sushi?
Kara:

Amy's Favorite Uncle,
Gary
Amy,
I went to the sushi maker website---we want to see some heart-shaped sushi!!
That is so cute. Your kids can have sushi stand instead of a lemonade stand!
Yeah Ame, I want to know what all you put in your sushi!! That's huge for me--what's in there? Avacado? What else? Or not avacado.
I'm not sure which is more impressive: you making sushi yourself or Gary making a video of himself showing you how to make sushi. Either way, I'm impressed!
Kara- I know you like sushi. I remember you talking about it in the past. The kit is great! I can't imagine making it without it.
Mom- The boys want everything to be just so. ha
Mendi and Marcy- I put in rice, crab, cream cheese, avocado and bell pepper.
Mindy- Gag! Can you imagine buying sushi from kids in front of their driveway? haha
Lindsey- I was pretty impressed with the video. The sad part is that I had to watch it and pause it the entire time I first made the sushi.
