You Are Invited...

Sometimes, during school, Josiah disappears and either a.) finds trouble or b.) finds trouble. Today he found a Christmas box sent by Gee (my mom's grandma name). There are lots of wrapped gifts in the box but a few things that Gee left unwrapped so that they could have something when the box arrived at the house. Of course, they didn't see the box arrive, so I had it "hidden" in my closet. Josiah had been missing for awhile today and when he came back into the kitchen, he had an ornery grin on his face. I asked him what he had been doing and he told me that he found some antlers in my closet, tried them on, and stared at himself in the "nearer" (mirror). When he saw that I was okay with what he had done, he quickly ran back to the closet and brought back a pair of antlers for Isaac and himself.

Our cute little rascally reindeer

Did you know that reindeer can read??

Part of Isaac's lesson today was to write an invitation to someone. He chose Josiah.

Before you think that we had the world's best reindeer party in our kitchen, let me tell you what the party consisted of. We sang Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer. The End. :)

Okay, tell me what your day consists of... you do school in the morning, then what? Do you have to be super creative?
I use Clifford the Big red dog and sesame street for breaks... but I am thinking of even limiting that tv time... thought about you with your "no tv" rule.
LOVE and admire that :)

So cute. Isaac is writing so good! Maybe he will be a party planner someday. That was a great idea Isaac!

That's WRITING - I really do know how to spell it. Now, using commas, that's another story. I just randomly throw them in. ha!

Emily,
Every day is pretty different around here. A lot of mornings we have somewhere to be. Isaac goes to homeschool P.E., we go to the library for story time once a week, and a couple of other things during the week. So, if our morning is going well, we might get school done before we leave the house. Or, we might start school and come back and finish it later. The only time that I teach is when Olivia is asleep.
I've also started to notice that Josiah needs some extra attention. So I really try to include him in our school time. That's when I have to be creative. But since I have a curriculum and have the type of personality that likes to have a check-list, all the creative ideas I get are from his curriculum or from someone else. If you use curriculum, you can find what fits your personality and Z's personality. Some stuff gives you lots of room to be creative and some puts in all in a nice, neat box for you.
Also, I don't have a "no tv" rule, really. I just like to limit it. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE PBS!!!! I think that it's very educational and perfect for a "mommy break!" In fact, my boys still take naps every once-in-a-while. We finally set the rule that they have to take naps on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On the other days, if I need a break, on to the couch with the tv!!!!
Here's my suggestion to you. Start teaching Z the vowels and their short sounds. Start with I, U, E, A and then O. When you show him the lowercase letters, make sure they are in Denillian (sp?) form...with tails on them (so that he goes into cursive easier).
Have fun teaching him all of this (if he doesn't know it already) and see if you both enjoy it. I think that you'd be great at homeschooling and that your little guy would flourish under you. You are so fun!
Sorry that this comment is long...but I guess that it's my blog. :) But I'm sorry if anyone signed up to get follow-up comments and THIS is what you got!

Josiah, You rascal! I would have loved being there to see your little smirk after finding the antlers. Now that makes me kind of ticked off with your mommy that you didn't get all of those fun surprises right away. But you know Gee---I love overload!
