I have tried to convert my boys' nap time to reading (quiet) time. Well, actually, they have not been taking naps for awhile now, so maybe I tried to ADD a reading time. The first couple of days that I tried this, I went up to their room with them and read my own books while they read their own books. Today, we were not getting along (to put it lightly) so I sent them upstairs to fend for themselves. When I left, they were reading together on Isaac's bed. I could hear them whispering and occasionally getting up (I figured they were going for more books) but for the most part, they were very quiet.
After awhile, Isaac came downstairs for something. He was so excited telling me all about a track that they had made for their cars. I was halfway listening. The day went on and I had not gone up to their room. After dinner, this is what I found.

I love it!!
They are creative GENIUSES! I DO know the size of that room and I just can't believe their energy and ingenuity. It's like they mapped out a small city!! Look at the connections to the roads---and how they layed it out all over the room. You need to enlarge this photo and frame it and hang it in their room! Then go have a long soak in the tub. LOL!!
Wow, that is amazing. What creative boys you have! Great job boys! I say let them have at it as long as they are quiet and in one room for you a break downstairs. Don't give up! You can do it!
I love how most boys can think of every way possible to use a book, besides for reading!!! My boys were the same way!
Too funny!
Oh Amy, boys have the best imaginations!! YOu never know what they will think fo next.
Don't cry! Do the happy dance! Your boys spent a LOT of time looking at books, touching books, seeing the words and pictures...that's what reading is all about! I'd say your reading time was a huge success! I agree about putting that picture on the wall...that's classic! I LOVE it!!!!
Great track boys! If I send my girls up for a nap, books mysteriously appear in their bed with them and what I thought was nap time, turned into reading, social and a little snooze time!
I LOVE it. David loves to make tracks (or trains) with his books too. Hey at least they were quiet and didn't fight!!!
This is awesome!! Good times.
Hey quiet time is quiet time! It gives you the needed break and still has them learning to settle down..sort of.
Fabulous, I had no idea anyone else did that except William! Just yesterday he was making a race track and had built the books up into a sort of ramp to slide the cars down and see how far they would go!
