Making Laundry Soap and Getting Real

Okay! I've heard lots about making my own laundry soap from a few of you so today we tested it out. Well, we made it today, and we'll test it out tomorrow.

grating soap

Each boy had a turn, of course.

She's getting old enough to notice that she's left out.

Everyone got to stir--even the princess.

Now to getting real...
While all that cute laundry detergent making was going on, this is what my kitchen really looked like.
Notice Mr. Bellumnus' fish bowl. Poor guy. He got a good cleaning today. These are all dishes piled up from dinner last night and breakfast this morning. By the time I got my kitchen clean yesterday, dinner came. So I gave up and started again this morning.

breakfast stuff out (still)

Josiah's cup for the day, breakfast bowl and plate that couldn't make it to the sink because there was no room, Wal-Mart and Publix bags, ingredients to detergent, electric knife from dinner last night, and a cereal box that needs to be recycled.

But why clean when this kind of cute stuff is going on?

Isaac working hard and Josiah connecting lines.

I always thought that moms who home schooled their children must have had a perfect Martha Stewart type home. I think it's pretty far from the truth. If they do, I may be in the wrong business. But guess what?? My kitchen is clean tonight...now onto the laundry that I let pile up.

Before/After

The outside of our home was an eye sore, and it needed lots of help. We aren't finished by any means, but we have a great start!

The boys and I decided to start digging up the rocks in the flower beds.

It was a lot of work.

The grass had a fungus...but we got that taken care of.

UGH!

This was a lot more work that I could have ever expected. We filled up one trash can full (that, of course, I couldn't move after it was full of rocks) and decided to call someone to do the work for us. It was well worth it!

The boys really pitched in and helped us out a lot.

They loved every minute of the work.

Isaac cleared off a few more rocks before the mulch arrived.

It's so much fun to do hard work as a family.

Eager helper.

This picture just doesn't do it justice. There was a lot of mulch!

We have a yard!

It's starting to feel more like home.

The hard work paid off.

By the way, I wish I would have taken a before and after of the mailbox. It had so many vines and plants around it that we had to dodge spiders and lizards just to get our mail. We knocked ALL of the plants down and I'm so glad because now I feel like our kids can be seen more easily when cars come around the corner. Plus, it just looks nicer. (You can kind of see the mailbox in the background of the last photo. One of the plants is lying on the ground next to it.)

Olivia napping while boys try out the "tornadoes" we made today. The "tornadoes" were a flop.

This, of course, was a lot more fun than playing with a dud science experiment.

Let 'er fly!

And Josiah is the one that sniffed first. One more drug dog in the family. :)
