School Has Begun

Today was our first day of school. Isaac and Josiah have been so excited to get started. I've been excited, too.
When we bought this house, I decided that we would use our back patio (Florida room, as they call it here) as a home school room. Jay and I have been meaning to stain the concrete, but time has gotten away from us and it'll just have to do for right now. After the kids went to bed last night, we set up the room and the kids woke up to a fun surprise.

Olivia immediately started coloring.

Yay! Today is school!
The boys and I will work at this middle table while Olivia (or Olivia and Josiah) play in the back corner.

digging through workbooks before the day began

We dropped Olivia off at Busy Bees and they were ready for her to celebrate her birthday. She was too excited to play with toys to pose for me.

She didn't understand why her teacher was making her stand by that door and wear that hat.

First day of school for Mr. Pre-K.

First day of school for Mr. 1st Grade

By the way, he lost that tooth yesterday. What a cutie.
The boys woke up at about 1:30 this morning and found that the Tooth Fairy had left them both a surprise under their pillow. (And she had put the surprise with money in it under Josiah's pillow instead of Isaac's. Oops!) They were so excited that they didn't fall asleep until about 2:30 a.m. What a way to start off our first day of school.

Playing after school was over.

We have two squirrels that always play along our back fence. Isaac noticed one of them eating a leaf today. (The picture is blurry, but you can click on it to zoom in.) It's fun to have scenery out a school window.

It was a very nice first day. I was a little nervous about all that we have to cover each day because Isaac can get a little overwhelmed sometimes. But when I saw the overwhelmed look in his eye, I ran inside and brought some snacks out to the table. That did it.
It's going to be a great year!!

YEA FOR THE 1ST DAY OF SCHOOL!!!! You guys are going to do great. I can't wait to hear what you are learning. I'm sure Olivia was saying in her mind, "Enough of the birthday, already!" ha! (Or maybe not.)
ISAAC!! You lost your tooth!!!!! I'm so excited. You know Buff is going to be singing a song about you being snaggletoothed now, right? I love it!

Yahoo!!! School is in session! Your classroom looks great. I know the kids are excited. Congratulations, Isaac, on your lost tooth! The look on Olivia's face is priceless. The birthday hat looks huge(maybe it scared her). Have a great school year,Mr. Pre-K and Mr. 1st grader.

I love that you took pictures of their first day of school. I also love to see Olivia coloring - that makes it seem more real that sooner than later Paige will sit at a table unattended and color by herself. However, there will be another sibling in the picture when she turns two! (Wow!)
I love her coloring in her gown. So sweet.

Is that a rug on your floor?

This makes me want to do homeschooling so badly! It looks like you guys have so much fun! I'm thinking Zayne's Kindergarten year or his first grade year. I just LOVE the flexibility that goes along with it. I've got this great need for flexibility and a desire to take my kids with us traveling one day!
Talk to me again about it when you get the chance, okay? I want to hear about the joys and struggles and how you got started again...needing motivation after a hard first week and a half of ZJ's preschool... although he's loving it! Our schedule and energy level is taking a beating!
Your classroom is SO adorable, btw!

Mom- One week down and it's going great! We all love it. I think it helps that we have a room to go to.

Kayla- Thank you. So far so good.

Jean- We are loving the room!

Mindy- It does happen so fast. I love it when they can be a little more independent. It sure helps!

Mom- Yes. It's just an outdoor rug in that one corner.

Emily- I keep telling you that you'd love it! I get excited when I think of traveling when they are a little older. I'll email you soon. :)

We used fresh tomatoes from a co-worker of Bret's farm garden (it's huge)...but the guy at CB's said to use cans of salsa ready tomatoes - whatever that means.

Sweet Isaac. I'm so proud of him. And of you and Jay...what a testament to great parents! Yay for school! This is our first week too, and I couldn't be more pleased with how it's going. I can't decide if Ryan is in Kindergarten or 1st grade. I don't guess it really matters. I can't wait to have my own house again so I can have a school room too! I love it! Love you!
