In Line

It's official! We are on the waiting list for a referral. And we are not #21 like we expected. We are number 9!!

The agency director told us today that we can hope to get a referral in about 4 months. Things had slowed down right after we applied, so we thought that it could possibly take a year to even get a referral. But sooner sounds good to me.

Let me explain to those of you who don't understand the whole adoption process. (We are figuring it out as we go.) Here is what all takes place (in words that people like me understand):

1. Apply with the agency of choice

2. Home study (social worker comes to the house to see if you and your home are fit for an adopted child)

3. Put dossier together (all of the paperwork like birth certificates, marriage license, medical forms, background checks, reference letters....the list goes on and on)

4. Send off dossier to be authenticated

5. Dossier authenticated and translated in Ethiopia

6. Case submitted to court

7. Court date given (a date when Jay and I will travel to Ethiopia the first time, appear in court (about a 5 minute procedure), and meet Hadassah)

8. Case approved by the court

9. Case submitted to the embassy for appointment

10. Travel back to Ethiopia to pick up Hadassah

11. Home!!

Hmmm...about 9 months for God to create a baby in the womb...9th in line...9th grandbaby...very neat. So exciting! Has it sunk in yet that she could be here sooner than later? By Christmas? Thanksgiving? How long do you think??

With all the talk about the number "9," I had to look and see if that number was significant in the Bible. I found 2 things. The first was the 9 Fruits of the Spirit. And then one website said this, "Many commentators also note that there is a certain sense of "finality" associated with the Number 9 because it is the largest and last digit."
I bless you with both. I bless you with Fruit along this journey. And I bless you with a finality of having and holding Hadassah and her belonging to her forever family. I can't wait!

Oooh, I love all of the number 9 things going on. Also, Jay and I have been married 9 years. :) And it's 9:59 as I write this. And...just kidding.

Mindy, we have no idea. Things were progressing very slowly write after we applied, and now things are speeding up. But changes happen...we are praying for the best, of course.

Congratulations:) Thanks for putting all of the adoption steps in my language. Could all of this happen in September, the 9th month?
Better yet it could happen on my birthday the 9th of November. Now I'm getting excited. I will continue my prayers for Hadassah's home coming.
