After awhile, the boys decided to grab a pen and go out on our front porch and "sell some mail". I didn't know what that meant, but came to find out that it meant they wrote on the tear-out cards from the magazine, and delivered the cards to the neighbors' porches. (Sometimes my boys remind me of The Little Rascals.) I felt bad, but I had to make them go to each porch and pick the "mail" up off of the ground. They were pretty bummed, so I told them to come into the house and we'd make some "real mail" for the neighbors. I pulled out scrapbook paper, markers, ribbon and tags, and they got to work. They made 4 different cards, and we went and tied them to 4 different doorknobs.
I told them to be quiet (and told Josiah to quit looking in all of the windows) so that they wouldn't open the door as I was tying on the note. They were HILARIOUS! They were sneaking around, covering their mouths, and giggling so much.
After our little adventure, we went back in the house and they watched out the window as each neighbor came home. I didn't stop them, because it was so funny to watch. But they would throw open the door and run outside and announce to each neighbor that they had something on the front door.
One couple was so funny. They are a little grouchy and probably think that our kids are annoying. But they went and untied the note, said "thank you", and shut their garage door. Haha! The other 3 neighbors smiled so big and had funny conversations with the boys...especially Josiah.
I love having outgoing kids. I would be a recluse if not for them (okay, and if not for Jay).
I wonder if my boys will remember sneaking around attaching notes to doors when they grow older, or if this is just a fun memory that I will always have.

Oh you are making me wish I had done something differently....you'll see next week I suppose. :)
I snuck around with my mom in high school and did little...I won't say pranks but fun little things for the week of Valentine's ...it was something our school did where the girls pursue the guys - anyhow - my mom went with me and came up with a bunch of the ideas for treats. It is one of our favorite memories to this day and most of those guys still don't know who left little treats on their cars in the middle of the night.
Oh and me too on being a recluse - especially since we've moved. I read a deal about florescent light therapy (15 minutes of exposure like at a grocery store or dept. store)for depressed people - I am thinking it is not the lights but more just getting out! I'm always glad I get out but here lately I just don't!
You do the neatest activities with the kids. Everything happens for a reason. We'll know why as we watch them grow in every way. I think the boys get their creativity from their parents:)Talent, talent, talent!!!
Amy, the boys have such happy souls that they are just wanting to share their exuberance with others:) Yes, that's it!!!!!!!
I'm laughing so hard. This reminds me of their BUFF!! Do you remember the story of the twins (about 6 years old) getting a handful of the church's financial statement and taking them around the neighborhood to SELL???? (And they actually MADE MONEY!!)
I think your kids are blessed with a double whammy of exuberance from both sides of the family!!! Which means you'll have plenty of things to laugh over all your life.
So funny. Again, you do so many fun, creative things with your kids - I love it!
How cute--and what a good idea. I think I may have Hudson make some notes and maybe deliver some cookies with them--I bet that would brighten anyone's day. I like how it was just spur of the moment with yours though!
Mindy- ah, now I'm curious!!
I love the story of you and your mom. From all of your stories of growing up, she sounds like such a great mom!
And the recluse...florescent lights?? I've never heard that they were GOOD for you! Wow! ha
Jean- I'm excited to watch and see!
Mom- I can only imagine what Dad was like growing up. I've never heard that story.
Dawn- I had as much fun as they had.
Marcy- If you do, let me know how it goes. Do neighbors get to know each other in your community?? I think that it's different everywhere.
