Furry and Slimy Friends (Post 2)

Our boys used to be so afraid of little critters. When we first moved here, Isaac wouldn't go outside to play because he was so terrified of lizards (they are everywhere...the grass looks like it's moving because so many lizards shuffle around when you walk by). Slowly, they have started adapting. Today was a milestone for both boys. First, our neighbor stopped by to show us what she found.

There you go Josiah, wipe your little nose.

This is a mole that her sister found outside of their back door. I've never seen a mole in person. I think it looks like a cartoon character. They had a burial.

Isaac brought this earthworm into our house. I told him to get it out!! But lately they have been playing with millipedes, grasshoppers, worms, and lizards. Josiah caught his first lizard today (then stepped on it because he said the lizard told him it wanted to die...we had a big talk) and Isaac actually touched it.

But tonight, the funniest thing happened. The neighborhood kids were all hanging out together trying to capture lizards. They caught one, but it got loose by our door. Josiah had his rain boots by the door and decided to put them on. I told him to shake them out just in case the lizard got inside of them. All of a sudden, he starts screaming. "The lizard is in my boot! The lizard is in my boot!" I ran over and helped him shake his boot, thinking that he was probably just a little paranoid. I took the boot off of him and out popped a HUGE black lizard ( different from the one that they caught)! I laughed so hard and Josiah laughed nervously. What a trip. Never a dull moment.

As We Are said...

We think moles are so ugly. They just bring major distruction to a yard, so we don't ever want one again. Glad you are all getting so adjusted to your little creatures. Maybe next you could have a snake for a pet :)

ROFL! I'm laughing so hard. Poor Ike!! I can't imagine his horror! By the way, I'VE never seen a mole in person, either!

I was reading the story to Dad and realized I'd thought it was Ike instead of Josiah. I hope you overcame your fear, Josiah!!

By the way, you might show them pictures of the more dangerous stuff like scorpions so the don't pick them up!!! Yikes!

Crazy! I hate critters!! Good for you for facing your fear! Not many bugs up here--just more snow all stinkin' weekend! I'd take critters right now!

I think you boys are brave. Be careful what you pick up though.
I had better send you some books on all those creatures.

Tamra- Ooooh, we have snakes, too. But I hope they stay clear of those things!! Shudder!!

Mindy- Yes, Mindy. Maybe I need to send Ryan a bug barn. hehehe

Brea- It really is fun. The boys were the ones that showed me that millipedes don't sting. Now I make them pick them up if I find one in the house.

Katy- I have to say that I thought the mole was very cute...even dead.

Mom- It was hysterical! He acted it out again yesterday. And you are probably right, they might think a scorpion is a friendly little bug. AAHH!

Marcy- Really the only fear I have is spiders. And I'm pretty certain I passed that fear on to the boys. Oops.

Jean- They are getting braver and braver. They got new bug containers today..with a built in magnifying glass. :)
